GENERAL DIY MUSIC SITES
Use Your Ears is a great music industry directory but also has some good info once you get through all the ads! Bemuso has a good breakdown of all the aspects of releasing a record independently. John Vestman provides a mastering service and has some good recording tips up as well as a decent links page to lots of indie resources. RECORDING/MIXING/MASTERING Sound on Sound have lots of free articles online about all things technical - I found their info on preparing your tracks for mastering very helpful. Homerecording.com has lots of helpful links and info for those of us micing up in our living rooms and kitchens. Silver Dragon Records have a good section on home recording for folks just starting out. Home Recording Connection has lots of info - haven't used this one myself though. PACKAGING Sarem Media sell all the components you need to assemble cd covers yourself, including that all important 'button' for the cd to sit on, which I learned is in fact called a STUD CAP. Wow. Marvel at the lovely handmade packaging for giraffe running's album here. There's even a wee film of the covers getting assembled. Planets have released an album on distile records which comes in a - wait for it - homemade cloth sleve! Genius. There's a pic of it on distile records' myspace page. |
